The Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Program Director for Performing Arts within its Division of Tourism, Film and the Arts, Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC). The Program Director of Performing Arts (Dance, Music, and Theater) is responsible for core programs directly related to the agency’s mission to encourage and invest in the advancement of the arts for the people of the state. These programs include MSAC’s Grants for Organizations Program, the Maryland Presenters Network, and the Maryland Touring Artist program. In addition, this position serves as the agency’s designated Accessibility Coordinator.
Program duties include grant administration from receipt of application through completion of review process: determine eligibility and compliance with required terms and conditions of grants; serve as liaison to the public when communicating with non-profit organizations, artists, and members of the arts community including making public presentations; and work with a team of program directors to develop application forms, guidelines, panel process, timelines, and program policy and implementation plans. Incumbent also represents DBED and MSAC at national conferences, with other state and regional arts agencies, within arts community, and with other State agencies as performing arts discipline expert.
Candidates must possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work with high level public and private sector officials. The ability to handle multiple, concurrent and high priority tasks is required. Candidates must possess expertise in the Performing Arts field to serve as liaison to the field concerning applications, grants, and, other related issues affecting that field. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and/ software is required. Experience with Cultural Data Project preferred.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in a performing arts discipline or arts administration from four year college or university and minimum of four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work, two of which must have been in a performing arts organization or work in a public or private arts grant making agency or related area.
