Description
The Education Manager is the administrator and manager of Chesapeake Shakespeare Company’s significant and growing education program, which serves over 15,000 students annually and is a key focus of the company’s programming. The position handles scheduling, contracting, data collection, and billing for all education programs. It maintains program data quality and provides support to the Director of Education and assigned CSC staff with program-specific and organization-wide needs. This job is at the heart of some of the most important work we do…introducing students to Shakespeare with a joyful, thoughtful, approachable program.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule, contract, and bill for school matinees, in-/after-school residencies, camps, and Studio classes
- With the Director of Education, manage education program budgets and maintain spending controls
- Organize and schedule spaces for classes and camps
- Manage all aspects of surveys, data collection, and data analysis, including accurate data gathering and entry, databases maintenance, generation of data for program evaluation, grant applications and reports, and administrative reports for senior management and board of trustees
- Work with the Director of Education in recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and overseeing Teaching Artists
- Maintain all education program data in customer relationship management database (Salesforce/PatronManager); ensure data integrity, update records, and perform related tasks
- Coordinate marketing materials, mailings, and correspondence
- Other duties as assigned
Organizational Responsibilities
- Share responsibility in ensuring that an anti-racist, multicultural organizational perspective as well as the mission and vision of the Company are reflected in educational programming
- Participate in staff meetings, performance evaluations, and annual program planning
- Work with development and marketing teams to create language and program descriptions for funding opportunities and marketing efforts
Supervisory Responsibilities
- The Education Manager does not supervise Teaching Artists but should be comfortable re-directing Teaching Artists and other contracted education personnel in their performance.
Teaching Responsibilities
- If the candidate has teaching experience/qualifications, the position may include teaching classes on an interim basis.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree; may consider an Associate’s degree with equivalent administrative and management experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- At least one year of direct experience in administration; managerial experience a plus
- General proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Experience with database management (Salesforce a plus) and data collection, analysis, and entry; we are willing to train in these areas if you have some facility in adjacent skills.
- Dedication to incorporating racial equity into work
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to meet deadlines
- Ability to work well in a team environment. Sense of humor is necessary.
Other Requirements
- This is an on-site position, requiring daily in-person presence at the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company offices in Downtown Baltimore. Subject to effectiveness and the needs of the Company, limited remote work may be possible.
- The Education Manager will occasionally need to travel to schools and off-site camp locations in the region, and should have access to transportation for that purpose.
Where qualifications are described in terms of formal education or training, prior experience in a relevant field, as determined by the Company, may be considered.
Compensation and Benefits
- Starting salary of $36,000–$40,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience
