Organizing Artist

Baltimore Center Stage is seeking an experienced Organizing Artist to join the artistic partnerships and innovation team during BCS’s upcoming production of WHERE WE STAND by Donnetta Lavinia Grays. The Organizing Artist is responsible for stewarding relationships with Baltimore area organizational and community leaders and their constituents during the performance run.

Under the leadership of Executive Director Michael Ross and Artistic Director Stephanie Ybarra, BCS produces a wide range of artistic, learning, and community programs. We are committed to an inclusive workplace, and individuals from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

This position is part-time and temporary between March 1, 2020 and April 30, 2020 and reports to the Director of Artistic Partnerships and Innovation.

Rate: $17.50/hour

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In collaboration with Artistic Partnerships & Innovation and the BCS Box Office, organize tickets for each performance of WHERE WE STAND at BCS (performances between April 2 and April 26 closing, 25 total performances)
  • Serve as primary point of contact for community partner group tickets (including scheduling in advance, greeting day-of, and follow-up post-show) during the run of WHERE WE STAND
  • In collaboration with Learning and Social Accountability & Artistic Partnerships and Innovation, develop civic engagement strategy for BCS and share out learnings based on community relationships
  • Attend artistic team meetings & additional meetings on site at BCS as needed, expectation of roughly 5 hours/week on site

  • Experienced in building collaborative relationships, especially with communities of color
  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing
  • Understanding of the communities that compose our region—both historically and in the present moment
  • Highly organized and responsible self-starter
  • Excellent listener, able to understand and articulate community concerns and needs to the larger BCS organization
  • A strong interest in and/or experience with community-based arts programs
  • Learning-oriented person, skilled in documenting and sharing information
