Single Carrot Theatre Fellowship Program: DEADLINE EXTENDED

Description of the Fellowship:

Single Carrot Theatre’s fellowship program is designed to provide hands on experience to emerging theater artists, as well as an opportunity to have a working understanding of Baltimore’s premier ensemble theatre. The fellowship is a season long program that includes administrative and artistic responsibilities. Single Carrot is dedicated to the growth of artists, and the fellowship has been created to introduce emerging theatre artists and administrators to the exciting and demanding world of ensemble theatre.

Next year, Single Carrot Theatre will be celebrating its 10th anniversary season. Fellows work to fulfill SCT’s mission and support the SCT Ensemble. A fellow attends meetings, completes Front of House duties, manages individual projects to support the operations of both the business and artistic workings of Single Carrot Theatre. Artistic assistantships or shadowing opportunities may be offered for the 2016-2017 season.

Expectations:

❖ Successful candidates should have a willingness to listen, explore and grow with regards to both the artistic and administrative aspects of non-profit ensemble theatre

❖ SCT Fellows must commit to a full season at Single Carrot Theatre from August 1st, 2016 through July 31st , 2017.

❖ Fellows should be able to commit to10-20 hours of work per week. Evenings and weekends will be required. SCT respects religious and national holidays.

❖ Fellow will participate in all events and initiatives to celebrate SCT’s 10th anniversary

❖ Fellow is expected to attend most company meetings and ensemble trainings.

❖ Fellows will assist ensemble members with their work, and assist in company wide duties including “all hands on deck” activities (including Front of House shifts, build days, and Marketing and Development events and campaigns).

❖ Fellow will Participate in artistic assistantships and/or shadowing opportunities as assigned, complete individual administrative projects, and complete other duties as assigned.

❖ Fellow should to have a positive attitude, and be willing and eager to try new things and learn new skills. They must be able to handle a demanding schedule and perform well under pressure

❖ Fellow should be skilled at working independently as well as collaboratively.

❖ Fellow should reflect positively for SCT at all times in the community.

Requirements:

❖ Some prior artistic experience in theater (performance, directing, design, stage management). Ideal candidate is a recent college graduate in theater or a current college student studying theater.

❖ Strong written and oral communications skills

❖ Other administrative skills and experience are a plus

❖ Ideal candidate is a self starter and takes initiative

❖ Desire to learn, get your hands dirty, and grow as an artist and administrator

Fellowship Benefits:

❖ Season long intensive experience with a growing ensemble theatre

❖ Possible artistic opportunities in design, building, stage management, dramaturgy and performing at Single Carrot Theatre

❖ Administrative opportunities including public relations, marketing, development, education, audience development, production management, and technical direction.

Evaluation:

❖ Fellows have an evaluation 90 days after their arrival, and again at the end of the fellowship. These meetings provide the Fellows and supervisors with a formal framework within which progress can be discussed, goals identified and mutual expectations articulated.

Mission:

The Single Carrot Theatre ensemble is a driving force for theatrical innovation in Baltimore—championing new, diverse, and socially significant works; reinvigorating the classics; creating vibrant theatrical experiences; and fiercely supporting the growth of young artists.

Brief History:

Formed at the University of Colorado in 2005, Single Carrot Theatre moved to Baltimore in 2006. In its 9th full season, Single Carrot theatre has produced 39 main stage productions, participated in numerous collaborative endeavors with area nonprofits, offered extensive educational programming for both children and adults and engaged in international exchanges with theatre artists from Russia and Bulgaria. Single Carrot Theatre moved to a permanent home in January 2014. Firmly planted in Baltimore, Single Carrot Theatre has made it a priority to be a part of the community and to engage and empower Baltimore’s residents through theatre.

Structure:

Single Carrot Theatre is an ensemble based theatre company where the artists of the organization also function as the administrative staff. Each ensemble member has voting rights and is actively involved in any big picture decisions and creation of new policy.
