SINGLE CARROT THEATRE SEEKS FULL TIME DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR:
Single Carrot Theatre seeks a Development Director interested in growing with an energetic, passionate company. This is a unique opportunity to join a community of individuals who work collectively to bring new and exciting work to Baltimore and use art as a vehicle for community building and neighborhood revitalization.
The Development Director is responsible for planning, implementing and managing the development activities for Single Carrot Theatre, a vibrant ensemble theater company. The Development Director manages cultivation and stewardship of individual donors and corporate sponsors; direct mail and online campaigns; grants from foundations and government agencies; and event planning and production; oversees the development budget; and reports to the Managing Director. The Development Director works in close partnership with the board and the ensemble.
Salary: $30,000

Primary Responsibilities:
Donor Relations and Recognition
Identify individual prospects and develop cultivation strategy. Engage donors and prospects through one-on-one meetings, “backstage” opportunities, and cultivation events. Draft and manage mailing of all acknowledgement letters. Oversee and maintain electronic and printed donor listings, in addition to named gifts.
Direct Mail & Online Campaigns
Collaborate with all departments to ensure strategic alignment of fundraising initiatives. Develop key messaging and compile mailing lists. Manage production of print and online appeals. Organize letter signing for ensemble and Board members.
Event Planning & Production
Coordinate all fundraising and cultivation event logistics, including guest lists, invitations, budgets, auctions, catering, entertainment, sponsorship, and volunteers. Lead organizing committees to plan scope and format of fall benefit and spring party. Plan Board-hosted cultivation events.
Board Engagement & Development
Identify prospects and develop cultivation strategy in collaboration with leadership and Board representatives. Meet individually with Board members and leadership to secure pledges and plan involvement. Prepare quarterly giving statements and development report.
Grant Writing & Reporting
Identify funding opportunities, cultivate relationships with funders, and draft and submit applications and reports. Maintain regular communication with funders regarding recognition preferences, funding priorities, project status, and organizational changes. Anticipate reporting requirements and deadlines and schedule accordingly.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Nonprofit fundraising/development experience, preferably with significant foundation and individual donor fundraising experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Ability to participate in public speaking events
- Excellent written communication skills a must
- Ability to develop and manage budgets and prepare financial reports
- Computer literacy. Experience with fundraising databases, or CRMs preferred, especially PatronManager.
- And above all, enthusiasm and affinity for fundraising and working within an ensemble theatre company

Brief History:
Formed at the University of Colorado in 2005, Single Carrot Theatre moved to Baltimore in 2006. Now entering its 9th full season, Single Carrot theatre has produced 36 mainstage productions, participated in numerous collaborative endeavors with area nonprofits, offered extensive educational programming for both children and adults and engaged in international exchanges with theatre artists from Russia and Bulgaria. Single Carrot Theatre moved to a permanent home in January 2014. Firmly planted in Baltimore, Single Carrot Theatre has made it a priority to be a part of the community and to engage and empower Baltimore’s residents through theatre.

Single Carrot Theatre is an ensemble based theatre company where the artists of the organization also function as the administrative staff. Each ensemble member has voting rights and is actively involved in any big picture decisions and creation of new policy.
