The Baltimore Museum of Art is seeking curious, warm, empathetic, and articulate individuals to act as hosts in the Center for People + Art, slated to open in October of 2015. The 6,000 square foot space includes a cross-collection Project Space featuring a 3-year thematic exhibition; a Community Commons featuring a community table and artwork by a regional artist engaged in participatory practice; and a Studio Space for creative production. Interpreters will play a central role in ensuring that each visitor feels cared for, engaged, and respected in the Center.
Home is the first exhibition in the Museum’s Project space and will feature 37 objects from the full spectrum of the Museum’s collection. The exhibition invites visitors to see similarities and appreciate the important differences among diverse representations and attitudes towards home.
Stationed in the project space and Community Commons, Gallery Interpreters will act as bridges between the audience, artwork, and space, supporting a responsive and nurturing visitor experience in the Center. Interpreters will be a welcoming presence and resource for the visitor, offering assistance, information, conversation, and creative activities tailored to visitors’ individual needs and interests. Interpreters will possess the ability to engage visitors in exploring and forging personal connections with objects and ideas related to the theme of home, with sensitivity to the interest level and social boundaries of each guest.
