The Walters Art Museum seeks Internship Program Coordinator

The Walters Art Museum seeks a dynamic, team-oriented individual to coordinate the institutional Internship Program. Reporting to the Human Resources Director, the incumbent will have responsibility for coordinating the program by:

  • Collaborating with all divisions to identify the need for internship positions within the museum and assisting with the development of position descriptions.
  • Recruiting qualified interns through postings on the museum’s website, local colleges and universities websites, social media and other recruitment sources; assessing placements in positions according to the interns’ interest, skills and abilities; coordinating interviews, processing investigative background checks, preparing offer letters and informational packets.
  • Serving as liaison for WAM and representatives from partnership organizations such as Morgan State University, University of Maryland Baltimore City, and with the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance by administering the Urban Arts Leadership Program (UALP) in order to increase diversity at the museum.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all internships and recruitment sources.
  • Organizing and conducting general orientation and coordinating training sessions for new interns.
  • Conducting exit interviews to obtain feedback on interns’ satisfaction and areas of improvement.
  • Completing paperwork to serve as documentation of hours for credit, when needed.
  • Coordinating the museum’s Workplace Wellness Program, and other museum-sponsored employee programs as identified by management, and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • AA degree and a minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience and familiarity with internship programs in a Museum or non-profit environment.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills. Strong administrative, analytical, organizational, communication and problem solving skills.
  • Must be computer literate, specifically with Microsoft Office software programs, i.e., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, with proficiency at the intermediate level.
  • Ability to work well with diverse individuals and personalities; must be able to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
  • Must be team oriented, collaborative, resourceful, and able to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Requires flexibility to work a 20 hour per week work schedule.
