Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts seeks Program Assistant

Program Assistant (Part Time, Grant Funded)

Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (MdVLA) is seeking a detail-oriented individual with excellent communication and organizational skills to join us as our part-time Program Assistant. You do not need to be a lawyer or possess a J.D. to apply for this position. The Program Assistant will support our Pro Bono Legal Services programs — including our In-House Representation and Pro Bono Referral Programs, Art Law Clinic Program, and professional development materials and events — to ensure that artists and creative small businesses receive assistance with their legal-related questions and/or concerns. The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal skills and is a cooperative, reliable team-player and self-starter.

The part-time Program Assistant role is funded by a grant from the City of Baltimore and is not a guaranteed position after the completion of the grant. The position runs for two years after the start date.

Position Duties

  • Communicate with individual artists and arts organizations regarding their needs and/or interest in pro bono legal services and educational opportunities
  • Support successful implementation of our Pro Bono Legal Services programs, including our In-House Representation and Pro Bono Referral Programs, Art Law Clinic Program, and professional development materials and events
  • Support outreach efforts to increase the public’s awareness of and access to MdVLA’s programs
  • Support surveys and data collection for MdVLA’s programs

The duties will require work on some nights and weekends.

Position Qualifications

  • Have a passion for interacting with and participating in different creative communities
  • Be a detail-oriented, self-starting, multi-tasker
  • Be comfortable communicating in-person, over the phone and over email with people from radically different backgrounds in an empathetic and pragmatic way, including artists, lawyers, and other members of the community
  • Be interested in assisting with MdVLA’s continued development of systems for equity, inclusion, and diversity within the organization
  • Have a familiarity with G Suite, Canva, and Salesforce or open to learning new administrative applications
  • Be dedicated to implementing long term systems for equity, inclusion, and diversity
  • Be willing to work at an organization that continually strives to learn, improve, and grow
