JOB SUMMARY
Manage day-to-day operations of the orchestra with presence at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore, MD, and the Music Center at Strathmore in Bethesda, MD. Ensure that all concerts/events transition seamlessly from rehearsals at JMSH to Strathmore
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Act as the primary operations liaison between BSO staff and the Music Center at Strathmore, including approximately one day per week working at Strathmore
• Advance BSO concerts, programs, and events as assigned
• Communicate regularly with Strathmore stage crew to ensure that all performances transition seamlessly from the JMSH to Strathmore each week
• Act as primary “manager on duty” for BSO performances at Strathmore, as well as at JMSH as assigned, including:
o Monitoring temperature and humidity of stage during rehearsals and performances and making HVAC system adjustments as necessary to ensure compliance with AFM collective bargaining agreement
o Coordinating with other members of the artistic operations staff to ensure performances run smoothly
o Coordinating communication between front of house and backstage
o Completing event reports following each performance
• Create stage plots for all BSO performances
• Generate and distribute production sheets and other paperwork for operations staff and stage crew at JMSH and Strathmore for all concerts and presentations
• Assist Vice President with development of annual production budgets, projections, and tracking of actuals throughout the year
• Schedule non-backline instrument rentals
• Coordinate with the percussion section on purchase and maintenance of BSO-owned percussion instruments
• Monitor and schedule maintenance and repair of all BSO-owned instruments with particular attention to piano tuning
• Research and obtain props, wardrobe, costumes, or other related items as required for concert productions in conjunction with other team members
• Schedule bus transportation for the orchestra, choruses, and other large groups
• Participate in monthly organization-wide JMSH event operations review meetings, weekly Operations team, and General Manager team meetings
• Lead monthly meetings with BSO staff at Strathmore and the Strathmore operations staff, creating agendas as necessary
• Create and print Cathedral Street Garage parking vouchers
• Manage various COVID-19 related duties such as assigning unpacking/warmup areas, creating signage, and purchasing and managing distribution of rapid tests
• Assist VP of Operations in ArtsVision database management
• Accept room use requests from musicians at the JMSH and enter confirmed reservations into ArtsVision
• Work with VP of Operations in researching additional venues for BSO performances such as Symphony in the City, Music for Maryland, and other community activities
• Write Voice of God announcements, confirming accuracy of sponsors and other language
• Other duties as assigned
