ACADEMIC TEACHER (ELA or MATH)
Grade levels: Hiring for Pre-K- 8
Classification: Part-Time, Non-Exempt, Temporary
Reports to: Site Manager
Compensation: $35/hour
Hire Dates: October 1st, 2019 to June 6th, 2020
Schedule: English Language Arts Mondays & Wednesdays | Math on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:10-4:10PM | 1st Monday of the month are Staff Meetings at Creative Alliance (3134 Eastern Ave. Baltimore, MD 21224) 3 to 5PM
Sites: John Ruhrah Elementary/ Middle School (6820 Fait Ave. Baltimore, MD 21224) OR Tench Tilghman Elementary/Middle School (600 N. Patterson Park Ave. Baltimore, MD 21205)
Overview: Creative Alliance provides out-of-school-time programming that includes academic, artistic and cultural enrichment to students in K-8th grade in educational settings throughout the city. Students receive academic tutoring, multicultural art enrichments, homework help, and exercise. Creative Alliance partners with various community organizations and teaching artists to provide arts enrichment including theater, African drumming, Mexican dance, percussive music, cooking, video game design, basketball, and boxing.
Academic Teachers support Creative Alliance Out of School Time program goals, policies. Academic Teachers write lessons in ELA or Math and assess and develop plans to improve student’s performance. Additional hours may include: Program Orientation, Professional Development, Youth rehearsals and Finales and quarterly evaluations.
- Promote the mission of Creative Alliance and goals of After School program
- Attend mandatory trainings and professional development workshops
- Develop after-school lessons to improve student performance and report concerns
- Supervise and conduct 30 minutes of homework completion from 2:40-3:10PM
- Delegate tasks to program assistants and/or volunteers
- Implement incident reporting and safety protocols
- Engage in professional development opportunities
- Maintain an orderly classroom
Requirements:
- Enthusiasm for Creative Alliance’s mission, programs, and workshops
- Two years’ experience as certified BCPS teacher in Pre-K-8thgrade
- Complete a background check
- Effective communication skills
- Timeliness
