Amid the woes of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the lockout of the musicians, it’s great to hear good news. Herb Dimmock, Music Director of Bach in Baltimore, recently contacted me about their major scheduling expansion. This year they will be launching a Beyond Bach series which includes two large instrumental concerts. The first titled “MUSIC OF THE GODS” will feature Handel’s Water Music (Suite No. 2), Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, Op 84, and Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony. The second concert titled "MUSIC OF HUMANITY" will feature Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2, Op. 36. The orchestra for these concerts will include the Bach in Baltimore Orchestra, as well as Baltimore Symphony Musicians.

In its 32nd year of performing, these concerts represent a major expansion of the organization’s mission. Click here for more information on these fall early fall events and watch for Bach in Baltimore’s 2020 schedule. It will include the original version of Copeland’s Appalachian Spring. This is such a difficult time for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and its musicians. It is good to know there will be more music in Baltimore this fall.

If you’re looking for something sooner, say this Thursday night, check out “Asperger’s are Us” comedy show at the Creative Alliance. Asperger's Are Us is the first comedy troupe consisting of openly autistic people. As they say, “we're not a charity and we're not poking fun at Asperger's. We're absurd.” For the members of the Massachusetts sketch comedy troupe, it’s easier to associate with a faceless audience than with their own families. No matter who’s in the crowd, best friends Noah, New Michael, Jack, and Ethan have one simple mantra: “We would much rather have the audience appreciate us as comedians than people who have overcome adversity.”
