Executive Director’s Letter November 27, 2018

‘Tis the season for holiday parties! GBCA will be celebrating this year at The Bearman Gallery in the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myers Museum on Thursday, December 13 from 6 to 9:00 pm.

Come join us for the festivities and to meet other members, artists, advocates, and patrons of the arts and to share some holiday cheer. We'll have drinks and light hors-d'oeuvres along with all of our bright shining faces. You’ll also get an insiders peek at The Frederick Douglass Bicentennial exhibition, which was curated by GBCA’s own Kibibi Ajanku. The artist, Ed Towles, will be joining us to discuss his work. Thank you to Living Classrooms for helping to make this event possible.

Congratulations to Urban Arts Leadership alumnae Asia-Anansi McCallum whose costume designs for Ain’t Misbehavin’ at the Arena Players were nominated for the 2018 Broadway World Baltimore Awards. You can vote for Asia here. Keep your eye on her, she’s a superstar!

Giving Tuesday is everywhere! It’s a great salve to the rampant consumerism of the season. Don’t go to sleep this evening without making a gift to your favorite arts and culture organizations. Need some ideas? Here’s a link to all of GBCA's wonderful member organizations. And of course, remember that your gift to GBCA keeps our services up and running. You can contribute here and remember, if you are a member, your additional donation will be matched 100% by a challenge grant from the William G. Baker, Jr. Memorial Foundation!

On a sad note, the recent passing of Suzanne Cohen marks the loss of another great Baltimore icon. Her volunteer work spanned the gamut, from social justice to the arts. Her friendship, advice, and support were a gift to me over the past few years at GBCA. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by many of us in Baltimore whose lives she touched and changed.

All my best,

Jeannie
