Matching Cultural Organizations in Need with People Who Have Space

Every week, GBCA hears from someone in the cultural community who has lost their space, finds their building unsafe, is just getting started, or needs room for rehearsals or storage. While we continue to think about long-term solutions to the bigger problem of matching cultural organizations in need with people who have space, in the short term we have developed a partnership that we believe will be beneficial to the cultural sector, houses of worship, and the broader community.

On October 6, GBCA will host Partners for Sacred Places and its program, Making a Home for Art in Sacred Places. Although we have been in conversation with this wonderful organization for several years, they have just received funding from the Doris Duke Foundation to conduct a three-city study in Baltimore, Detroit, and Austin. Performing arts organizations, in particular dance and theatre groups, are encouraged to come to learn more about the program and to meet potential partners in the faith community. Congregations of all denominations are also invited to attend. If they are interested in, or are already housing cultural programming, please feel free to invite your church, synagogue, mosque, or other sacred place. This program is available to cultural organizations performing a wide range of content and does not focus on those whose work contains religious subject matter. You can RSVP to the October 6 event here, and be sure watch GBCA’s website for additional information.

Among the many upcoming events, make it a priority to attend Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake’s Cultural Town Hall at the Maryland Historical Society on Wednesday, October 15 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. This event, presented by Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts in partnership with GBCA, is your chance to hear from the Mayor, ask questions, and to demonstrate the cultural sectors importance and strength. Let’s pack the house!

Congratulations to our friends at Chesapeake Shakespeare Company! We wish them a stellar opening week and future in their new home.

Best,
Jeannie
