Executive Director's Letter - 2/21/23

GBCA is extremely excited to announce a partnership with the Baltimore City Chamber of Commerce to provide new benefits to our members across the arts and business sectors. This partnership with the Chamber is the first of many enhancements we will be adding to GBCA member benefits this year.

Beginning in March 2023, members of each organization will have access to unique networking and educational opportunities, member directories, funding, special discounts, and other curated benefits from each service organization. The partnership, which aims to strengthen innovation across sectors in the region, will launch with a special happy hour event on Thursday, March 30, at 6 p.m., at Urban Reads Bookstore located at 3008 Greenmount Avenue, Baltimore, MD. More details about this event and registration are forthcoming. To learn more about these new benefits, please visit https://www.baltimoreculture.org/GBCAchamberpartnership.

Our individual artist members and member organizations, many of whom have operating budgets under $500,000, are a vital part of our region's small business ecosystem. As such, we are grateful to offer access to the Chamber's resources, tools, and Chamber members' goods and services.

Keep an eye out for additional partnership announcements and upcoming enhancement. We are so grateful to Executive Director Lenora Henry and the Team at the Chamber for working together with GBCA.

As we launch this new partnership, GBCA is also lifting up the accomplishments of leaders of color, specifically alumni of Urban Arts Leadership (UAL). Please join us in congratulating Amanda Morell on her promotion to Deputy Director at Maryland Citizens for the Arts (MCA). Amanda was integral to the success of last week’s Maryland Arts Day. This year, MCA, led by Nicholas Cohen, is also hosting UAL Fellow Tracy Stevens. We are grateful to the entire staff team and Board for their unwavering advocacy for arts funding and their support of UAL.

Registration to become a part of the 2023-24 Urban Arts Leadership (UAL) Training Cohort is open. Now in its 10th year, UAL is a workforce development fellowship awarded to high-achieving, emerging leaders of color. This flagship program of GBCA’s equity and inclusion department, champions policies and practices of cultural equity that empower a just, inclusive, and equitable nation. To apply and/or learn more about the fellowship program, please visit www.baltimoreculture.org/ualapply. Applications are open until April 30, 2023.

All my best,

Jeannie
