Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance Announces Fellowship Placements for Urban Arts Leadership
Cultural organizations from around the region host fellows in an effort to diversify leadership
(Baltimore, Md.) – The Urban Arts Leadership (UAL), a professional development program of the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance (GBCA), announces its 2019 fellowship placements. UAL was designed to increase the participation of groups that have been historically underrepresented, particularly those of color, in the management of cultural and artistic organizations.
The eight fellows, who were selected in August 2018, represent UAL Cohort 2019. They each will be embedded in the arts sector for work within area cultural organizations where they will lead projects ranging from event programming to marketing and outreach strategies, to community engagement initiatives.

“The issues of equity and inclusion are critical to the success of the creative sector. Urban Arts Leadership is building a pipeline of talented emerging leaders in an effort to diversify and strengthen arts organization leadership by connecting emerging arts administrators to resources and professional development with a focus on racial equity and inclusion” said Kibibi Ajanku, Director of Equity and Inclusion for the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance. “GBCA is extremely excited about the strength of UAL Cohort 2019 as well as the amazing projects and organizations participating this year.”
The development of UAL has been guided by community input and the participation of more than thirty administrators for partnering organizations. This professional development initiative is an immediate response to the needs of emerging leaders of color in Baltimore and its five surrounding counties.
