The Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance celebrated the birthday of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Sunday with a trip to the African American Museum of History and Culture in Washington, D.C. This journey included the Urban Arts Leadership Program Fellows, facilitators, alumni, and mentees from the Save a Dope Boy project. We were also joined by GBCA Board President, and Director of The Walters Arts Museum, Julia Marciari Alexander and her family. It was both a perfect and somewhat overwhelming day filled with awe, inspiration, and emotion. That D.C. was buzzing with preparations for this week’s inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, was a reminder of the context in which we experience change, transformation, challenges, and a peaceful transition of power.
The scope of the exhibitions, the throngs of visitors, and the museum’s home on the National Mall demonstrate that the United States and its government lead for the benefit of all our citizens.
In other news, this is the final week for artists to create or update their portfolios on the Baker Artist Portfolios website in order to be eligible for an award in 2017. The deadline is next Monday, January 23rd at 5:00PM.
All the best,
Jeannie
