Baltimore Shows Support for Orlando

As the news of the tragic attack in Orlando unfolded this weekend, like most of you, I was shocked and saddened. But it wasn’t until last evening in a quiet moment that the full emotional impact really hit me. Thank you to City Café and the wonderful Baltimore Symphony Orchestra musicians for the moving tribute to the victims of hatred and evil. Hundreds of people also gathered at the Ynot lot in the Station North Arts and Entertainment District for a vigil organized by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center of Baltimore and Central Maryland (GLCCB) attracted hundreds of people who gathered to express their sorrow and as a demonstration of solidarity with the victims, their families and friends, and the LGBTQ community.

This is a big week on Capital Hill for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). Committees considering a funding increase of nearly $2 million to $150, million for FY 2017, however we’re not out of the woods as amendments have been introduced in the House to decrease this amount. It’s time to make your voice heard! Follow this link to Americans for the Arts to learn more about the process and to let your representatives know what you think. Although final decisions on funding levels for this year aren't expected until after the November elections, this week is a key time to remind members about the difference NEA funding makes in your community.
