Antigone Comes To Baltimore

The Greek heroine, Antigone, was one of the first women protestors. Her story about the clash between personal convictions and state law continues to resonate today on the page -- and the stage.

GBCA is pleased to announce its partnership with Coppin State University to bring a dramatic reading of scenes from Sophocles' Antigone, presented by Outside the Wireon January 21. This powerfully staged reading by Bryan Doerries, founder Outside the Wire, will feature actors Paul Giamatti, Sonja Sohn, Duane Foster, and Marjolaine Goldsmith.

The piece was developed in Ferguson, MO with participation by the local community and police. Baltimore choir, One Love Alliance will be featured with The Phil Woodmore Singers, a gospel group including members of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Choir, Trinity Community Church Choir, and Center of Creative Arts Singers which is under the direction of Bruce Henderson.

I hope you will join us on January 21 at the James Weldon Johnson Auditorium at Coppin State University. The performance is followed by community panelist remarks and a facilitated town hall discussion. Admission is free, but seating is limited. Tickets can be found here.
