Big News! Kibibi Ajanku Appointed to UALP Program Manager as UALP Fellowship Applications Open for 2016-17

Big news—I am pleased to announce the appointment of Kibibi Ajanku as Program Manager for its Urban Arts Leadership Program. She has acted as Interim Manager of the initiative since December 2015 and was preceded by founder David Mitchell.

Given Kibibi’s experience as a community leader and founder of Sankofa Dance Theatre, she is uniquely qualified and has the vision to manage the next stage of this important program.

Speaking of UALP, the 2016-17 Fellowship applications are now being accepted from talented young leaders. UALP offers professional development and paid placements at area cultural organizations. A program of GBCA, the UALP was designed to increase the participation of groups that have been historically underrepresented, particularly those of color, in the management of cultural and artistic organizations.

Last year and during one of the most challenging weeks in recent history, more than 120 individuals gathered at Westminster Hall for the third annual Baltimore Thinkathon. The long-scheduled “think and do” event that immediately followed the uprising asked the prescient question “Can Art Save the City?”

Artists, scholars and activists from across the city came and worked together on ideas and projects that contributed to the responses of the Baltimore art and culture sector, including one of the first NEH Humanities in the Public Square grants.

Don’t miss the opportunity to participate this year. Join us on April 29 at Westminster Hall for the Baltimore Thinkathon4, a project or the University of Maryland Arts and Humanities Center for Synergy in partnership with the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law and the Greater Baltimore Culture Alliance. The arts and humanities offer powerful tools to take on the challenges of the city and help move toward solutions.

Best,
Jeannie
