Baltimore's First-Ever Mayoral Forum on Arts and Culture Was A Success, Take The Citizen Artist Pledge!

Executive Director's Letter
March 8, 2016

Wow! The first-ever mayoral forum on arts and culture brought down the house at MICA last night. It was a standing room only crowd with many of our audience members having to watch the event from monitors in the lobby. Citizen Artist Baltimore successfully convened this forum featuring eleven candidates for mayor of Baltimore City including Sheila Dixon, Elizabeth Embry, Joshua Harris, Patrick Gutierrez, DeRay McKesson, Nick Mosby, Catherine Pugh, Cindy Walsh, David Warnock, Wilton Wilson, and Calvin Young. We ran a tight ship and had the opportunity to hear each of them answer policy and platform questions related to arts education, equity in funding, cultural planning, and more. Now that they have seen our numbers, let’s make sure we demonstrate the power of voters that care about arts and culture.

What next? Take the Citizen Artist pledge today and make a commitment to vote in the primary election on April 26th! Citizen Artist will continue organizing, promoting voter registration, engaging the candidates, and making your voices heard.

If you had to miss the Forum (or want to relive some of the magic moments), you can watch a recording courtesy of cityExplainer.com. at citizenartist.vote. You can also learn more about the candidate’s positions at citizenartist.vote where candidate questionnaire responses are being posted. Thank you to Sammy Hoi, Debra Rubino and the incredible team at MICA. You guys are flawless.

All the best,
Jeannie

P.S. And a special thank you to Kevin Brown and Station North Arts Café for keeping our guests refreshed.
