Inspiring Rubys Grant Proposals and Arts Advocacy Day

These past two days I have had the pleasure of sitting in on the panel reviews for the Rubys Artists Project Grants. This round of grants included two categories: Media Arts and Performing Arts. Our amazing expert jurors from around the country engaged in thoughtful deliberation and in the process reviewed the proposals of more than 90 area artists. The proposals were inspiring and the jurors embraced the exciting work and ideas that were presented from throughout the region. The Rubys grants are made possible with the vision and funding of the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation. Watch for the grant announcements in the next few weeks.

Today is Americans for the Arts' (AFTA) Arts Advocacy Day; if you were among those unable to be in Washington, D.C. today you can still participate. AFTA suggests the following:

Ways You Can Take Part:

  • Ask your members of Congress to support the arts. Visit the E-Advocacy Center, and you'll be able to send a message in less than two minutes directly to your Representative and Senators telling them why the arts are important to you and your community. Take two minutes and send your message to Congress today!
  • Join in the discussion on the Arts Advocacy Day Facebook page.
  • On Twitter? Tweet your pro-arts support and Follow @Americans4Arts and track all the action in Washington, DC at #AAD15 and #ArtsVote!

Don’t forget that tomorrow (Wednesday), Dr. Gregory Thornton will be speaking at a town hall style meeting hosted by the Baltimore Arts Education Coalition. Come out to ask questions and to learn more about Dr. Thornton’s plan for arts education for every child in City Schools. This event will be held at the Baltimore Design School from 4:30 to 6:30 pm and you can RSVP here.
