'False Idols' by Isabel Pardo

'False Idols' by Isabel Pardo

The John Fonda Gallery at Theatre Project now showing ‘False Idols’ an installation by Isabel Pardo from December 8th, 2023 to February 4th, 2024.

Isabel Pardo is an artist and curator based in Baltimore, MD. She has a BFA in Painting, Art History, and Curatorial Studies from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Solo exhibitions include, "Have You Seen the Horsemen Yet?" at The Alchemy of Art in Baltimore, MD and "Half Sinner, All Saint," virtually at The Aerogramme Center for Art and Culture. Inspired by surrealism and alchemy, Pardo strives to create dynamic experiences for the viewer through multimedia paintings and immersive assemblage installations.

Fascinated by the strangeness of depictions of magic, mysticism and all things holy, Pardo works with pen and ink, watercolor, collage, and the art historical cannon to develop new compositions out of established imagery. Taking inspiration from illustrations of religious and mythological narrative, ‘False Idols’ utilizes imagery to create a visual language for the viewer to distill and interpret meaning. When all iconography is manmade, what defines one as false? The blend of collage and painted imagery forms a sort of puzzle where the individual relationships between symbols create meaning as a whole, ultimately using the known to create the unknown.
