Raised in Clermont Florida, Saxophonist Justin Mendez has quickly made a name for himself as one of newest up and coming players to watch out for. Boasting an impressive start to his career, he has shared the stage with artists including Wycliffe Gordon, Dave Liebman, Warren Wolf, Sean Jones, Nasar Abadey, Delfeayo Marsalis, Mark Rapp, Chad Lefkowitz Brown, Scott Wilson, Jeff Rupert, Dan Miller and Miguel Zenon.
A first-call saxophonist in Washington D.C where he currently resides, Mendez is the lead tenor player for the US Navy Band Commodores. Additionally, Mendez tours frequently as both a sideman and promotor of his own projects. Festival and notable venue performances include the Duck Jazz Festival, Hapco Jazz Festival, Ocoee Jazz Festival, Koger Jazz Festival, Litchfield Jazz Festival, Jacksonville Jazz Festival, Lakeside Jazz Festival and the Orlando Latin Jazz Festival.
Mendez is currently featured as a guest on two records including Zach Muth’s Signals and Thomas Milovac’s Sextet album, Sun Ray.
