Ruth Channing: Collages (Reception)
Join us at the Raoul Middleman Studio Museum for the opening reception of Ruth Channing: Collages.
Channing’s colorful prints and paintings were inspired by her experiments with chine collé, a special printmaking technique in which paper of a different color or texture is adhered to the overall piece.
For this body of work, the artist combined chine collé with monotype, using a variety of papers and patterns. From there, she expanded to a larger format, collaging the shapes directly into a painting on canvas. She took the female torso as her motif and approached it in a sculptural way, thinking of the scissors as a carving tool.
The exhibition runs through December 17. Gallery hours are Saturdays, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. For information, contact Ben Middleman at [email protected] or 443-990-1290.
