Responsibilities:
The Education Director has primary responsibility for implementing the educational mission of the Creative Alliance, which includes providing high-quality after school, summer, in-school, and workshop programming for Baltimore City children and youth.
The Education Director reports to the Managing Director. The Education Director manages the Education Coordinator. Instructors (either lead or co-teachers), Teaching Assistants and an Intern position and provides an important role in supporting community outreach efforts.
- Develop the overall vision and strategic direction for all aspects of the department
- Manage the Education staff
- Organize and manage year-round arts programs for children and youth including interviewing, hiring, generating contracts, and supervising instructors and assistants
- Serve as the main point of contact for BCPS
- Liaison with executive directors, principals and program officers to develop programs and secure fees
- Cultivate relationships with new partners
- Develop training materials and lead trainings for teaching staff
- Direct program curriculum development and evaluate lesson plans with teaching staff
- Oversee publications (e.g. flyers, postcards, catalogues) for recruitment and documentation
- Create press releases
- Supervise and evaluate teachers and perform on-site visits
- Supervise aspects of final exhibitions/receptions and award ceremonies
- Manage the Education Department budget in conjunction with the Finance Director, Managing Director, and the Education Coordinator
- Sustain relationships with external partners (e.g., Library, Recreation Center, schools)
- Connect youth from the education programs with other events at Creative Alliance
- Connect youth from programs to other opportunities, such as employment and higher education.
- Provide information to development staff for proposals and grants
- Obtain funds to support educational programs
Qualifications and Experience:
- College degree or higher with concentration in fine and/or performing arts and arts education.
- Teaching experience – 5 years in-school or out-of school programs
- Administrative experience – 5 years, supervisory position
- Knowledge of the community arts field
- Knowledge of youth developmental stages
- Capacity to supervise, direct, and evaluate diverse staff
- Professional verbal, writing, and organizational skills
- Ability to take initiative and work independently
- Desire to work with city youth
- Reliable transportation
- Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Word, and Excel
