Overview:
The BMA is seeking a dynamic and innovative Community Engagement Manager. This full-time position reports to the Director of Public Engagement & Interpretation in the Education Division.
The Community Engagement Manager will be the liaison between the BMA and its public. The position oversees outreach efforts, including but not limited to the Outpost program, the Host program, and the Open Hours program.
Responsibilities:
The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for overseeing the development of the next iteration of the Outpost program and organizing upcoming Outpost residencies with community groups, schools, non-profit organizations, and other public spaces. The position will engage the public at the Outpost 2-3 afternoons a week, through art making, map-making, conversation, and public programs. The position will be responsible for identifying and training a local Outpost assistant for the three-month residency at each site.
The position will oversee the monthly Open Hours program, in which the public is invited to propose events, workshops, lectures, and experiences to take place in the new Patricia and Mark Joseph Education Center. They will be responsible for managing the sign-up process, vetting potential presenters, and successful coordination of the program.
Along with Education colleagues, this position will help oversee the gallery interpreter program, BMA Hosts. This will entail organizing monthly meetings and developing curriculum about the current exhibition and themes relevant to socially engaged art.
The position will also work directly with the Director of Interpretation and Community Engagement to develop community-based programs related to the U.S. Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale, and related upcoming BMA projects.
Qualifications:
2-3 years of experience administering and implementing public and community programs for a range of audiences in a museum setting
BA in visual art, art history, art education, or a related field
Demonstrated project management skills
Demonstrated ability and willingness to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders
Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
