GBCA has regularly operated as a convener in the cultural community, bringing groups together around ideas, challenges, and opportunities. GBCA has hosted and co-hosted symposia, roundtables, networking events, and more.
Ongoing Convenings:
Monthly Happy Hours
On the first Monday of every month, GBCA hosts an informal happy hour for arts and culture at a local bar. Check our Events page for locations.
Bi-Monthly Emerging Leaders Network
It isn’t always easy for emerging leaders in the cultural community. GBCA, loosely following the model established by Americans for the Arts, convenes a group of emerging leaders (loosely defined as those in the first five years of their career or under 35) for discussion, professional development, and networking. To become involved with the Emerging Leader Network, send an email to gbca@baltimoreculture.org. The group meets every two months.
Symposia
Every year GBCA hosts a convening to address a big issue facing the field. Last year, renown futurist David Houle gave a presentation on “Arts and Culture in the Shift Age”. In 2009, Michael Kaiser from The Kennedy Center gave an address called “Arts and Culture in Crisis”. Come back soon for more about a symposium in 2011.
CreateBaltimore
In January 2011, J. Buck Jabaily, in collaboration with Scott Burkholder, Dave Troy, and Andrew Hazelett, hosted CreateBaltimore, a convergence of the arts and technology communities. Over 180 participants joined the un-conference for an electrifying day of discourse. CreateBaltimore 2 took place on January 21, 2012. More information on CreateBaltimore can be found here.
