Partnerships

Last week I had the honor of speaking at “Ignite for a Better Baltimore“. Following the same format as Ignite Baltimore, the speakers ranged from artists to social entrepreneurs. Ignite is always filled with amazing ideas, and last night was no exception.

The focus of my presentation was on the importance of partnerships–this is a well worn song, but I think it’s something our community is particularly effective at, but could still do more of. While our cultural community faces daunting, ongoing challenges of funding, and audiences, there is no lack of opportunities or avenues for partnership–whether its the tech community, the fact that Baltimore is an amazing college town, a strong nonprofit sector, an influx of enterprising and innovative artists and cultural workers, the rich diversity of our city, or 21st century audiences eager to be engaged.

One of the parts of my job that I love the best, is helping to put two potential partners in contact with each other. Do you have any stories about how GBCA has helped connect you with a partner over the past 10 years? Or is there an idea for a partnership that you have, but you just don’t know who to talk to about it? Please get in touch with us and let us know. Summer is a great time to start (or improve) a partnership. Hopefully you’ll come to our second Arts & Culture Happy Hour next Monday, June 6, from 5-7:30pm, at the downstairs bar at Brewer’s Art. Last month we had over 25 people attend. It may be a great place to develop a new partnership.
